Wed, 05/29/2013 - 09:41 — Brad RIncredible as it may seem, BGLUG (and mostly Chris) has worked through the stack of donated computers we received last year, refurbishing them, installing Linux, and sending them out to needy families. As of now we have fewer than a dozen computers waiting to be checked out -- and if past experience is any guide, half of them won't work.
So, the STARS project is looking for donations of used computers! Our current requirement is for working machines with Pentium 4 or Athlon XP or better CPU, and 1 GB of RAM. Newer is better. We also need LCD monitors -- no CRT monitors please! USB keyboards are also in high demand right now.
To arrange a donation contact stars@unitedwaybg.com . Or, if you just have one or two machines to drop off, feel free to bring them to our monthly BGLUG meeting.

This month's topic is digital telephony. Andrew built an Asterisk based voice menu box for a local real estate business in January, so he says "I know enough about asterisk FreePBX to be dangerous and will share it all with you making you equally dangerous." System requirements include a demo with a linux asterisk pbx, pair of telephones and IP trunking. Bring your ATAs, IP phones, etc, we will have an old school phracking party. As always, the floor is open to anyone who has an interesting project or problem to describe. And we will have our customary magazine exchange, hardware give away, and the inescapable uncontrollable tech talk.
