Many ways...
    - command-line scripts
    - CGI scripts called by Web server
    - redirected from serial or network ports

Online search returns lots of "FTDI serial-to-usb cable".  But, the USB
end of this cable will show up as serial (/dev/ttyUSBx).  I don't know
if it can be configured to fake a keyboard.
