hi everyone,

wanted to tell you about a browser extension i've been testing for a few weeks. maybe everyone else already knows and i haven't been paying attention. so here's for the members of bglug who haven't heard about it

stylish is available for chrome and firefox

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylish/fjnbnpbmkenffdnngjfgmeleoegfcffe?hl=en <https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylish/fjnbnpbmkenffdnngjfgmeleoegfcffe?hl=en>

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/ <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/>

this extension modifies css on a per-site basis.

for instance, i installed stylish, went to https://userstyles.org/ <https://userstyles.org/> and installed the slashdot minimalist userstyle

https://userstyles.org/styles/344/slashdot-minimalist <https://userstyles.org/styles/344/slashdot-minimalist>

and no more adds in slashdot. stylish has changed the css for slashdot such that the right column has disappeared.

this is nice because its all done in css. problems include fact that you must download (or create & contribute) a userstyle for each site you want to modify, plus if the site changes its layout you might need to edit the userstyle. for instance, i downloaded the google calendar minimalist userstyle but had to modify it slightly due to changes at google.

you can also use it just to make a website look cooler by forcing it to use your own art and styles.

later,
andrew.
