[Bglug] Macbook to Linux

Interesting. I actually made the opposite move.
In university I went cold turkey and only used Linux for 5 years. Then at
my first job at VMware, I was shown that most Enterprise IT is Windows
based, and I had to run Windows on my laptop and 75% of the servers we
dealt with were Windows 2003 / 2008 / 2008 R2, and later 2012 & 2012 R2.
The other 25% was Red Hat / Cent OS / Suse.
I was one of the people that knew linux the most, as most of the folks
hired were sysadmins with Windows backgrounds (or networking backgrounds),
and as such I became the global technical lead for Suse Linux (when it runs
on top of VMware's hypervisor)....but still, everything else seemed Windows
based.
Now that I'm doing Software Development, it seems like most folks run Mac
OS. My work computer is a Mac, but our servers are Linux. Folks seem to
like the lack of configuration required for Mac laptops.
Devs seem to be against "Ops or Sysadmin" stuff. It's a weird but
interesting dynamic.
I typically use Vagrant to spin up VirtualBox VM's that run
Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS/whatever the need is, and do my development in. But
the host OS is OS X.
I'm interested in following this conversation/thread :)
Who knows, maybe I'll make the switch with my next laptop purchase.
