Did that cluster overhang ("slack space") bug in ecryptfs ever get
fixed? I recall it could severely corrupt multiple files in one blow
(circa 2012).

For different reasons (not the cluster overhang bug) I've had too many
problems with restoring files using ecryptfs from a dead hard drive.
The contents can be retrieved with a bit of work, but I've never
managed to restore the filenames and end up with a folder full of
files named "#12345", "#12346", "#12347", &c.

I'd rather use LUKS encrypted containers, which have never given me
any trouble.

As far as the TrueCrypt license goes, I think it prohibited any
derivative (ie. interoperable) programs (pre v7.2). So I've never
taken to things like VeraCrypt or any of the other compatible
applications.
