Chris hopes to have a prototype of a new mixed distro for the STARS program. Please remember that we also need hardware for STARS!
Incredible as it may seem, BGLUG (and mostly Chris) has worked through the stack of donated computers we received last year, refurbishing them, installing Linux, and sending them out to needy families. As of now we have fewer than a dozen computers waiting to be checked out -- and if past experience is any guide, half of them won't work.
So, the STARS project is looking for donations of used computers! Our current requirement is for working machines with Pentium 4 or Athlon XP or better CPU, and 1 GB of RAM. Newer is better. We also need LCD monitors -- no CRT monitors please! USB keyboards are also in high demand right now.
To arrange a donation contact stars@unitedwaybg.com . Or, if you just have one or two machines to drop off, feel free to bring them to our monthly BGLUG meeting.
